What is the difference between a P-trap and a bottle trap?

Both hold a water seal that stops drain odour entering the room. A P-trap is a bent tube exiting into a wall outlet and is the standard fit on wall-hung and pedestal basins. A bottle trap is a cylinder with a removable lower cup, easier to clean and neater to look at, so it is the usual choice under counter-top and designer basins where the trap is visible.

Why does a shower floor need a cockroach-trap drain?

A plain floor grate leaves an open path from the drain line into the bathroom. A cockroach-trap drain adds a flap or water seal under the grate that closes when water is not flowing, which keeps insects and drain smell out while still clearing water normally.

Why would I need a CP extension nipple?

Because tiling adds depth. When a concealed inlet is set into the wall before tiles go on, the finished tile face can sit 10–25 mm proud of the thread. An extension nipple brings the thread back out so the tap, shower body or health-faucet outlet finishes flush against the tile.
