How to read an EN 388 code

EN 388:2016+A1:2018 is the European standard for gloves protecting against mechanical risks. The code on the cuff is four digits and up to two letters. Higher is better; 0 means the sample did not reach level 1, and X means the test was not performed or not applicable.

EN ISO 13997: the cut level that matters for HPPE

Glass-fibre and HPPE yarns blunt the Coupe blade, so their true cut protection is measured with a single straight-blade stroke and reported as a letter. Most OSCARS knitted gloves sit at B, C or D; the Elephant Dotted, Elephant Micro Foam and the Cut-D Sleeve reach level D.
